Training Opportunity * The Group Psychotherapy Training Elective is again being offered for the academic year 2008-09, and is designed to broadly cover a variety of aspects of group psychotherapy. Participants will learn to understand the structure and dynamics of therapeutic groups, and will examine the various models of group psychotherapy that can be offered. We will be guided by an appreciation of the four levels of systemic organization that co-exist within any group, from the individual (intrapsychic), interpersonal, structural/role; and group-as-a-whole. In addition, we will look at the variety of settings in which group therapy can be conducted, as well as adaptations for specific populations. The elective consists of a weekly seminar (syllabus and readings are provided) along with a weekly experiential training group. Although it is strongly encouraged that both the seminar and training group be taken together in order to provide a more rich experience, it is not necessary to do so if scheduling does not permit. It will be possible to sign up for one, with or without the other. The cost for both components is $800 for the year, or $500 for each component for the year if taken independent of the other. Consideration will be given for a reduction of the fee for students- in-training. Ron Vereen, MD, CGP will be leading the seminar, which will meet on Tuesday mornings from 8 - 9 AM (beginning 7/22/08), and Russ Hopfenberg, PhD, CGP, will be leading the training group, which will meet on Wednesday mornings from 7:35 - 8:50 AM (beginning 8/6/08).
